National Regulators

The IRBAI framework is implemented with, not instead of, national authorities. Each member state designates a national AI monitoring body that coordinates with IRBAI, supervises AI systems within its jurisdiction, and gives effect to IRBAI decisions at national level.

This page describes the working relationship between IRBAI and national regulators, and how a regulator establishes it.

COOPERATION

How We Work Together

IRBAI provides the common framework: the risk classification, the certification and audit standards, and the registers that give every national authority the same picture of the systems operating across borders. National regulators contribute jurisdiction-level supervision, incident reporting, and the enforcement measures that only states can take.

Harmonization runs in both directions. National frameworks recognized as equivalent reduce duplication for entities certified in both systems, and mutual recognition arrangements extend the value of a certificate across jurisdictions.

What Cooperation Includes

Coordination protocols with the competent IRBAI services; access to the registers relevant to supervision; participation in the Policy Forum, where national experience shapes the framework; training and technical exchange for supervisory staff; and structured referral channels in both directions for cases that cross the line between national and international competence.
